Just like the superstar that she so remarkably emulates, Rebecca Young has
been singing since the age of eight. She was consistently selected as the
soloist of the church choir making her parents proud of her angelical
voice. She took after her father, who was an accomplished country music
guitar player and singer from Spartanburg, South Carolina where Rebecca
was born.
Little Miss Young continued singing and took part in the musical
activities of her high school in Florida after leaving South Carolina.
Living in Miami presented the opportunity for Rebecca to perform in show
rooms along Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. She eventually moved to the
West Coast touring the Golden State area with the rock band "The Young
Californians".
It is in Canada that she later
performed with the bands "Stratus Fraction" and "Rebecca Young and
Boomtown". Afterwards, she went on to win a prize at the DuMarier
national talent search as new talent. Her trek continued on through
Alberta and eventually British Columbia performing as a soloist with the
Victoria Symphony Orchestra. It was there that her first show as Judy
Garland came to be known as "A Garland for Judy" playing to an
appreciative audience with great success.
Longing for warmer climates brought
Rebecca to the Hawaiian Islands. During one of her performances, some cast
member of the “Legends in Concert” show spotted
her and immediately
arranged for an audition. Since then she has been delighting and amazing
audiences portraying Judy Garland nationally. She has joined the cast of
Legends in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Branson, Mesa and on the Rembrandt
ship of Premier Cruise Line.
She also was triumphant in Berlin,
Germany when she was cast as “Judy” in “Stars in Concert” at the Estrel
Hotel.
The Patsy Cline character, on the
other hand, came around in the last couple of years after a lot of hard
work and persistence to achieve a new ring in the ladder of show business.
Country music lovers have shown great appreciation of her performances
even in places like Branson, Missouri.
In
2002, Rebecca starred as Judy in a 6-month contract with the “Bill Lloyd
Masquerade Show” at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino, in Atlantic City. Among
other great reviews, the AC press called her a Showstopper for her
performance in Masquerade. She then performed in “Stars in Concert” in
Valley Forge, PA.
In
2003, she joined Suzanne Goulet (as Liza) in a new tribute show about
mother and daughter, “Judy & Liza, Together Again” . The show started at
the “New Port Hotel” in Miami Beach and went on to become a big success at
places like the Foxwood Casino, North Miami Beach Performing Arts Center
and on the Nordic Empress of RCCL.
At
present, Rebecca and Suzanne are performing in Legends and Concert, Myrtle
Beach and will continue with their show in Naples, Florida and Lakeside,
Ohio for the summer. |
